The structure of
the governing body of the Town of Red Cross is a Town Council, which has four (4) members
and a Mayor. Town officers are elected on a nonpartisan basis and results
determined by a plurality as provided in North Carolina Statute 163-292.
Both Council
members and the Mayor are elected to serve four year terms. Terms are staggered with
the Mayor and two (2) Council Members being elected in one election and two (2) Council
Members being elected in the next election. This insures that at least two
experienced Council Members will remain on the Council at all times.
The Mayor
presides over Town Meetings and votes only in the event of a tie vote of the Council
Members present.
The Town Council
meets in the Hinson Room of the Town Hall on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM.
