The people of
the Town of Red Cross welcomes you to our Town. Our commuity assumed its identity in
the late 1700s and has, over the years, evolved into a recognized and integral part
of Stanly County. We are very young as a Town and our people are working very hard
to make our Town and community the best possible place to live.
Facing growth
pressure from Charlotte the people of the community of Red Cross incorporated on August 1,
2002. We did this for the purpose of establishing a legal identity and obtaining the
required mechanisims necessary to retain the values we cherish. We like to think of
ourselves as a quiet, rural community with traditional and strongly family oriented
values.
Although we are
listed as primarily residential and agricultural, we are a thriving community that is
evolving into a town. We are located in the central-western part of Stanly County,
North Carolina along the Hwy. 24/27 corridor connecting Albemarle (County Seat) to
Charlotte.
Our Town has two
schools - Running Creek Elementary School and West Stanly High School. We are proud
of the accomplishments of these schools and for what they have done in helping our
children prepare for the future.
